His antler are larger than standard Roe. His jaw piece is fixed to the back of the shield. An absolutely beautiful vintage specimen.

Roe hunting shields are a very ancient yet common practise of honouring food and pest culls. Unlike most animals such as our cattle and chickens, you will rarely find a single remnant left over from the animal, as every part is utilised. 

 In this case the animals have had their caps and some half skulls with their unique antlers, mounted to hand cut shields for wall display.
